Set Construction Sat Feb 26th

Get your screw guns and hammers ready!  Romeo and Juliet set construction is here!

Sat. Feb 26th from 10am to 6pm we will be on the BCT Main Stage putting up the Romeo and Juliet set.  All the pieces are there, the set outline is painted on the stage floor, and we are ready to build.    We need your help.   If you can help, please plan on attending 10am-6pm tomorrow (Sat 26th of Feb) - use the ramp door on Buffalo St.

Rehearsal tonight at 7 PM.  Run Part 2.  All cast are called to rehearsal.  If you are not working on the run Brett will be available to asisst you with your character and help choreograph the long pieces.  Brett has also been given permission by me to cut parts of the scenes to assist with getting the play down to a reasonable length of time.  If you have questions let me know.

Set build on Saturday and Sunday (see your schedule) and we will begin running the show at Sunday's rehearsal at 6 PM.  All cast members are called to these rehearsals and I would appreciate it if every effort would be made not to miss or be too delayed.

You don't want to miss Romeo & Juliet at the Barrow-Civic Theatre.

Directing a play that is as timeless as Romeo & Juliet by the Master, William Shakespeare, is a delightful opportunity to visit some of the worlds best ever story telling.  The characters are so passionate and the twists and turns that human drama is full of such as love, hate, joy, and death never get old even though the language of the play is.  This production will invite the audience into a timeless dream where time and place are not as important as the meaning of the story itself.

     Romeo and Juliet are what we call in our modern age “just kids.”  They want what they want when they want it and they want it all now.  Family life being what it is and the lack of tolerance for families that are “different” create the fertile ground in which rebellious love can flourish.  The tragedy of this play is that what was loved most, the children, choose death over a life without the love they so passionately crave.  Of course the parents vow to never forget them and promise never to carry on a hate filled grudge again but what they have lost can never be replaced.

     The set design by Ted Smith promises to be a dynamic piece of the production in which the characters of this masterpiece become animated players in a life size expression of modern art.  Costumes by Lisa Harry continue to accent the dream like experience and compliment each character’s expression of themselves.  Something old becomes new again and just in time for spring.

     Last night went very well.  I am getting REALLY excited.  This is going to be a great production.  Tonight we will be working on Part 1 again and we will pick up where we left off on Monday.  If we have time we will return to the beginning of Part 1 and rehearse again.  ALL CAST ARE CALLED TO REHEARSAL.  If you are not on stage or waiting for an entrance talk to Bret about anything you want some coaching on (don't be shy...that is what he is there for and I can't assign special sessions all the time).  If you are not in need of the coaching please study your lines.  Every hour counts at this stage of rehearsal. 

    The costume parade is moved to tomorrow night, February 24th.  Stage manager, Bill H. (hubby) will begin talking to cast members about various set changes that will be taking place during the show.  I would like these assignments to be made now so that you can be aware of what you will be doing to assist a scene and keep it in mind as you rehearse.

     As to be expected, transition to the main stage was choppy and there is much work to do to get our production up, running, and at the performance level.  But, I am sure we will.

    Tonight we will run Part 2.  All cast members are called to rehearsal even if you are not in this part because since we have an assistant director, he can pull you aside and assist with various scenes that need work.  Also, when you are not busy you can be studying your lines.  This is an important phase in the rehearsal process so please stay committed, focused, and aware of what is going on around you.
